August,
I can’t tell you what this all means to me. When you decided to publish my letter to my father it gave me the courage to pass it to other important people in my life. Like family, best friends, ex girlfriends, etc. These are all people that I let down in life and people that I wanted to share my commitment to transformation with. I hope you’re doing well and can’t wait for our dinner on Thursday!
By the way, a client of my father’s (my father describes their relationship as “rocky”) forwarded the link to him before I did! My father said it brought his client to tears…
Ian
Dear Ian,
You deserve it man. What you did is my definition of true courage. Your letter reveals vulnerability and there is no authenticity without vulnerability. I also like the fact that you “went public” for another reason. Now you must FOLLOW THROUGH! For the rest, this is what it is all about. I pass on what I pass on because it is the only game in town worth playing. Your father’s client is an example of throwing pebbles onto the pond where you never know where the ripples may end up. As Krishna told Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita, we have the right to our labors but not the fruit of our labors. All we can do is work as if it all depends on us and pray as if it all depends on God. Looking forward to that steak as well. Augie

August, Ian, thanks for sharing this heartfelt letter. What great recognition about where you have been and where you want to go. Growing up to be who you were created to be takes great courage, and a forgiving heart – of yourself and others. My prayer is that God will place the people and events in your life that will help you on your journey. Sounds like he already has!!
And August, while you will never receive a letter like Ian wrote, you have been a father figure for many, and you inspire and touch people every day. Don’t lose site of the importance of who you are.
Best…Jim
August, it seems as though Ian has had 2 father-figures, one gave him life and support and guidance…and you gave him an ear that would listen and wisdom! He is a blessed young man that did not have to wait until old age to figure the important things out! God Bless you, Ian , and his Dad
